On the same day, people worldwide will observe the 23rd International Overdose Awareness Day. International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is the world’s annual campaign to end overdose, remember those who have died and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.
The BC Coroners Service report Unregulated Drug Deaths, released on June 30th, noted that in 2022 the Alberni Clayoquot region had 28 deaths, and 9 deaths in 2023. In BC we are still experiencing 6.1 deaths per day due to unregulated drug supply. Central Vancouver Island is one of the highest death rate by health service delivery areas.
